Why do I need my air con serviced?

Your air con needs servicing regularly just like your engine, after all you don't wait until your car breaks down to get it serviced.  As your refrigerant level depletes, the a/c system has to work harder.  As the a/c pump is powered by the engine that means the engine working harder.  By having an a/c service and regas you keep it running more efficiently and blowing colder. Don't forget air con is used all year round, not just in the summer, especially in climate control systems. The dehumidified air helps you demist your windows and maintain a clear vision of the road.

How long does it take?

An air con service and regas normally takes no longer than an hour

Why is my air con not working?

Very often this is simply due to the system running low on gas, which activates a cut out switch which then shuts the system down.  Regassing may be all that's needed to get the system working.

What type of gas does my car a/c use?

The gas is called Tetrafluoroethane but is more commonly referred to as R134a refrigerant gas, the same as in your fridge/freezer.  Some older cars (pre 1992) may have used R12 gas which was phased out in favour of the more environmentally friendly R134a gas.

What tips are there to look after my air con system?

We recommend using your a/c for at least 10 minutes every week to keep the system and seals lubricated.   We also recommend having your a/c serviced by us annually.
